Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, progressive disease of the central nervous system (CNS) caused by damage to the protective myelin sheath covering neurons. It is estimated that there are more than 2.3 million people worldwide with MS. In the United States, the average person has a 0.1% chance of developing MS. MS lesions, or plaques, disrupt electrical impulses from neurons in the CNS to muscles that can affect mobility, elimination, energy, vision, and other functions. This course discusses diagnosis, symptom management, treatment, and nursing care of patients with MS.?
